GTC Announces Award Winners 04

Distinguished camera-work in current war zones was honoured at the Guild of Television Cameramen's 42nd Awards of Camera Excellence on Sunday May 18. The awards were presented at The Great Barn in Upper Aynho, Oxfordshire. Guest of Honour, Jeremy Thompson, news-presenter and anchor of Sky News at Five, spoke about the contribution of cameramen in television.

Darren Conway OBE was honoured for his film Saving Syria's Children and the memory of Mick Deane, a Sky News cameraman who was tragically shot and killed whilst filming in Cairo last August. Mick Deanes widow Daniela and sons Patrick and Ben were there to receive a posthumous award for his Special Contribution to Television News. Jeremy Thompson paid a moving tribute to his colleague.

TiCA, the Guilds highest award, was presented to Dominic Jackson for his outstanding Steadicam work.

About the Guild of Television Cameramen

The Guild of Television Cameramen ( http://www.gtc.org.uk ) is an independent non-profit-making international organisation that cares about television camerawork and the people who make it their craft. The GTC has over 1,000 members, in the UK, Europe, Australia, Russia, Singapore, South Africa and the USA. The majority work in aspects of television ranging from production through documentary and drama, live events, news and current affairs, sports and light entertainment, to corporate video.

Run by a council of volunteer television professionals, the GTC is financed by subscription from its members as well as sponsorship from equipment manufacturers and suppliers. As a result, the GTC offers a channel for manufacturers to consult with working cameramen when designing new equipment. GTC membership is open to anyone employed in single or multi-camera television operations or in any associated occupation.
