
The Malaga Festival reaches its 24th edition, reinforcing its commitment to the Ibero-American audiovisual industry Del 3 al 13 de junio, M laga ser capital mundial de la cinematograf a iberoamericana con la celebraci n de la 24 edici n del Malaga Festival. En un formato de nuevo adaptado a las circunstancias y restricciones causadas por la pandemia del coronavirus, y una completa selecci n de homenajeados, el Festival from Malaga come back with a Section Official que refleja el estado actual de la cinematograf a en espa ol. Aunando experiencia y j venes promesas, el festival pretende ser nodo de la industria audiovisual espa ola e iberoamericana.
The event has been presented at the Cervantes Theater de M laga. El evento, presidido por el alcalde de M laga, Francisco de la Torre, tambi n ha contado con la presencia de Juan Antonio Vigar, gerente de M laga Procultura y director de Festival de M laga; Te filo Ruiz, subdelegado del Gobierno en M laga; Alexander romero, viceconsejero de Cultura y Patrimonio Hist rico de la Junta de Andaluc a; Victor Gonzalez, diputado de Cultura de la Diputaci n de M laga; Noelia Losada, concejala de Cultura y Deportes del Ayuntamiento de M laga, y Rosa Perez, productora de Atresmedia Cine. Tambi n han estado presentes representantes de los principales patrocinadores de la cita.
A massive expectation El Festival decidi aplazar la edici n de 2021 a June, en lugar de marzo, mes en el que se celebra habitualmente. Lo hizo con un doble objetivo: wait for the global health situation will improve y que, tras la interrupci n de los rodajes durante varios meses, have a sufficient number of films for selection.
La decisi n se ha mostrado acertada, ya que se han registrado un total de 2.321 audiovisuales from 70 pa ses. La muestra, con un relevante porcentaje de obras propuestas por mujeres (715), incluye 312 largometrajes de ficci n inscritos (125 netamente espa oles o coproducciones y 187 latinoamericanos), de las cuales se han seleccionado 31 (23 en Secci n oficial y 8 en ZonaZine); 913 cortometrajes de ficci n y animaci n inscritos, de los que se han seleccionado 53 (34 en Secci n oficial y 19 en Cortos M laga); 748 documentales inscritos, de los que se han seleccionado 45, y 287 inscritos en Affirming womens rights, de los que se han seleccionado 16.
Official selection The musical movie The cover, debut tras las c maras del actor Secun de la Rosa, inaugurar el Festival, que ofrecer en su Secci n Oficial 23 largometrajes. De ellos, 15 son espa oles (cuatro de ellos, fuera de concurso) y ocho, latinoamericanos. Adem s de The cover, el certamen programar otras seis peras primas: Chavalas, de Carol Rodr guez Col s; Dead man does not know how to live, del cineasta malague o Ezekiel Montes; but, de Julia de Paz; Who are you traveling with, de Hugo Mart n Cuervo; Snail house, de Macarena Astorga; Brave flash, de Ainhoa Rodr guez; y The consequences, de Claudia Pinto.
Spanish participation in the competition will be completed by the new works by veteran Spanish filmmakers: The belly of the sea, de Agust Villaronga; El sustituto, de scar Aibar, y Live is Life, de Dani de la Torre. Respecto a la participaci n de Latin American movies, el Festival de M laga ha seleccionado The best families, de Javier Fuentes Le n (Per / Colombia); Amalgam, de Carlos Cuar n (M xico); 15 horas, de la espa ola Judith Colell (Rep blica Dominicana / Espa a); How queens die, de Lucas Turturro (Argentina); Carnival, de Juan Pablo F lix (Argentina / Bolivia / Brasil / Chile / Francia / M xico / Noruega); Oceanic woman, de Djin Sganzerla (Brasil); Light years, de Joaqu n Mauad (Uruguay), y The city of beasts, de Henry Rinc n (Colombia, Ecuador). La Secci n Oficial del 24 Festival de M laga se completar con otras four Spanish comedies out of competition: Regrettable stories, de Javier Fesser; Operation Shrimp, de Carlos Ther n; Brooklyn Sevillanas, de Vicente Villanueva, y Garcia and Garcia, de Ana Murugarren, pel cula elegida para clausurar el certamen cinematogr fico.
Series and new narratives Por su parte, la secci n Malaga Premiere acoger el estreno de cuatro series. El motivo, seg n ha comentado el director del Festival de M laga, Juan Antonio Vigar, es que hoy, cuando los l mites entre formatos son cada vez m s difusos, tenemos que abrir nuestro Festival al concepto de audiovisual', en el que las series de televisi n tienen un importante protagonismo . Estas ficciones son Lost fagot, dirigida por Alejandro Mar n para TNT; Ana Tramel. El juego, de Salvador Garc a y Gracia Querejeta para TVE; Paradise, de Fernando Gonz lez Molina, para Movistar +; y Lucia in the cobweb, de Tom s Oca a para TVE.
Adem s, Zonazine, apuesta por el nuevo cine que cumple ya 19 a os, incluir ocho pel culas de acentuado sentido autoral: cuatro espa olas (Juana la Lorca, de Valeriano L pez; Of the, de Mar Targarona; Solitudes, de Alexis Delgado B rdalo, y Lucas, de Alex Montoya) y cuatro latinoamericanas (Leading Ladies, de Ruth Caudeli; The beautiful losers, de Guillermo Magari os; Samichay, en busca de la felicidad, de Mauricio Franco, y The little bikes, de In s Barrionuevo y Gabriela Vidal). A esta selecci n de pel culas y series se unen las extensas secciones de Documentaries Y short films, cuya programaci n se puede consultar en la web del Festival.
MAFIZ Industry Area Juan Antonio Vigar ha resaltado tambi n otro proyecto estrat gico para el Festival: the Industry area MAFIZ, constituida por eventos que promueven la financiaci n, coproducci n, distribuci n y venta del cine en espa ol.
En esta ocasi n, ya se est celebrando online dos de estos eventos, M laga Work in Progress Y MAFF (M laga Festival Fund & Coproduction Event), centrados en los fondos internacionales que aportan financiaci n al cine latinoamericano.
