Mexican film HELI wins ARRI/OSRAM Award The ARRI/OSRAM Award for the best international film has been won this year by Mexican cartel drama HELI, from director Amat Escalante. 2013 marks the sixth time that the ARRI Group has sponsored this prize at the Munich Film Festival. In total, 16 films by internationally acclaimed directors were competing for the ARRI/OSRAM Award, which comes with a prize worth 50,000. The independent three-member jury this year comprised the German actress and director Maria Schrader, Variety chief editor Steven Gaydos and the New York PR agent Peggy Siegal.
As in previous years, ARRI Rental also supported the Munich Film Festival by lighting up the foyer and the red carpet with a range of ARRI lighting fixtures, creating a professional, welcoming atmosphere.
The ARRI/OSRAM gala at the 31st Munich Film Festival took place on the evening of July 6th, in the festival center at Gasteig. During the glamorous ceremony the jury acclaimed HELI the best international film and consequently stated in the verdict:
"Through the intimate story of one Mexican familys ordeal, HELI powerfully humanizes the plight of an entire country caught in the middle of a devastating drug war that has claimed, by some estimates, 100,000 lives in the past few years. HELI is an unforgettable portrait of the struggle for dignity in the face of a human catastrophe. Not only does the film touch us through its simple, restrained depiction of this tragic subject matter, but Amat Escalante demonstrates the writing and directing sureness of a master filmmaker."
