Sensoria Festival line-up for 2019

Sheffields acclaimed Sensoria Festival returns for its 13th edition, creating amazing experiences in various venues and spaces across the city from 27th September to 5th October.

Sensoria is the UKs festival of music and film, presenting a heady mix of live performances, film screenings, installations, exhibitions plus music and film industry activity across Sheffield.

This year Sensoria spans cult and classic cinema, future-gazing artists, the latest live scores, exhibitions, installations and on-stage collaborations. For 2019 it is exploring the themes of Myths and Legends' and Fantastic Planet'.

Holly Herndon will give her only northern performance this autumn on Thursday 3rd October at The Foundry, Sheffield University Student's Union. Herndon presents her vision of a digital and musical future, combining her work with artificial intelligence, a live vocal ensemble and visuals.

Hailing from the archipelago of Orkney, composer and multi-instrumentalist Erland Cooper promises a sublime Sunday courtesy of his nature-inspired music and field recordings. His Sheffield debut will be at the University of Sheffield Drama Studio on Sunday 29 September.

This years offerings also include Breaking Reverie - an immersive sonic light sculpture by Heather Lander with music by Michael Begg, as a pop-up installation in a city centre retail unit.

Industry events will also include SensoriaPro, a unique, informal gathering of composers, filmmakers, music publishers, music supervisors and festivals all under one roof to discuss the latest developments in music and the moving image. This year the event is taking place at Sheffield Town Hall, on Friday 4th October.

Sensoria closes on Saturday evening 5th October with the premiere live performance by Creep Show, a group made up of John Grant and the dark analogue electro of Wrangler (Stephen Mallinder, Phil Winter, Benge).

On Saturday 5th October we present SynthFest UK, the UK's biggest synthesizer exhibition in partnership with Sound On Sound.

Sensoria helps to promote a national profile for Sheffield music with a range of digital resources (uncommonpeople.co.uk & Sheffield Music Map), and bursaries (Beats Working Music Journalism).
