Tomb Raider to start shooting in Sou Africa

While the plot for the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider movie is kept under wraps, another star that has been cast in the film was recently announced. Daniel Wu, a famous Hong Kong-American actor, will now be joining actress Alicia Vikander in the reboot. By S Turla

The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Daniel Wu (City of Glass, Devil Face, Angel Heart, I Am Somebody) has been cast as Lu Ren, a ship captain who teams with Croft on a quest to find her father. Alicia Vikander will be portraying Lara Croft, and the upcoming live-action films antagonist will be played by Walton Goggins (The Shield, Justified).

Unlike Angelina Jolies portrayal of Lara in the previous live-action movies as a clever and quick-on-her-feet fighter, Vikanders Tomb Raider will be much younger and untested as she debuts while trying to survive her first adventure. Production for the Tomb Raider reboot will begin later this January in South Africa, and the film is slated for a March 16, 2018 release.

Vikander is a Swedish actress, and her recent projects include The Man From U.N.C.L.E., The Danish Girl, Jason Bourne, and Euphoria. The actress achieved global recognition and acclaim for her role as Ava in the film Ex Machina, and independent sci-fi psychological thriller about artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, actor Wu is currently working on Into the Badlands, an AMC martial arts drama series about a warrior and a young boy who journey through dangerous feudal land together seeking enlightenment. Wu portrays Sunny in the AMC series, a regent to the Badlands most powerful Baron, Quinn.

According to Slash Film the Tomb Raider reboot will be directed by Roar Uthaug, a Norwegian film director. He previously worked on the films A Fistful of Kebab, Fritt Vilt (Cold Prey), and The Wave.

The reboot films producer Graham King shared how the upcoming movie will be different from the previous movies starring Jolie, saying, Well this is kind of what we call a back to the roots story. This is a young Lara Croft in search to see if her father is dead or alive, so it has a very emotional part to it and I think thats what Alicia found so interesting about it. I think the storytelling is really good and I think weve got the right crew and a great director and I think its going to be really fun making a film like this.
