Apr s avoir fait ses armes au cin ma, il a r alis , 31 ans, les installations lumi re de centaines de publicit s parmi les plus complexes. Il nous parle de son m tier et de son utilisation quotidienne des projecteurs ARRI Lighting sur les plateaux.
Dans la famille Baucheron, je voudrais le fils ! Au jeu des 7 familles du cin ma, celle des chefs lectro est parsem e de ces enfants form s sur le tas qui ont port la profession des sommets. Les Baucheron p re et fils font partie de celles-ci avec un palmar s cin ma de tr s haute tenue : Minuit Paris et Magic in the Moonlight de Woody Allen, Amour de Michael Haneke, tous tourn s et clair s par Darius Khondji, dont tout le monde sait lexigence en mati re de lumi re. Mon p re est chef lectro depuis 40 ans, jai grandi avec lui sur les plateaux et chez les loueurs, explique Sidney Baucheron, le fils aujourdhui trentenaire.
Apr s mon bac, jai travaill pendant plusieurs ann es avec mon p re sur les longs m trages. Jai pu rapidement appr hender le mat riel et les bases du m tier. Il ma donn tr s vite des responsabilit s. 22 ans, je faisais d j le pr light sur Magic in the Moonlight . Depuis je me consacre surtout la publicit . Le format court me convient mieux car je me lasse vite. Jaime les projets qui sont de vrais challenges cr atifs, avec une recherche pouss e au niveau de la lumi re. Jadore cette pression, cette mise en danger que moffre la pub. Et puis, jai dautres activit s c t . Cela me laisse un peu de temps pour moi.

En mati re de challenge artistique, le d fil Saint Laurent sur la tour Eiffel aura t pour Sidney Baucheron un sommet. Il fallait cr er une installation lumi re avec 70 projecteurs et les suspendre au-dessus du premier tage de la tour, 80m de hauteur, o avait t cr un catwalk. Les contraintes techniques taient tr s fortes puisque nous navions pas lautorisation darrimer le grill la structure de la tour Eiffel et que nous navions que quelques heures la tomb e de la nuit pour le mettre en place. Avec plusieurs quipes sp cialis es, nous avons construit pendant deux jours cette installation de presque 7 tonnes et 30m de long. Au dernier moment, vers 23h, nous lavons mont e au premier tage de la tour Eiffel avec la plus grosse grue dEurope quil tait possible davoir sur place. Tout a avec une s curit maximale. Nous avons shoot le d fil toute la nuit avec le DP Nicolas Loir, avant de redescendre linstallation au petit matin. La pression tait maximale.
Installation du d fil Saint Laurent sur la tour Eiffel
Sur ces projets, le jeune chef lectro travaille troitement avec la r alisatrice Nathalie Canguilhem qui met en uvre les d fil s les plus fous imagin s par Anthony Vaccarello, le directeur artistique de Saint Laurent : de l' le de La Certosa Venise jusqu' la Villa Majorelle de Marrakech, des pieds d'un glacier islandais jusqu'aux dunes de Maspalomas aux les Canaries. chaque fois, ce sont de superbes projets, avec une grande dimension cr ative, souligne Sidney Baucheron. Maspalomas, avec mes quipes, nous avons clair 600m de dunes la nuit et cr diff rents types deffets. Jai propos quatre configurations de lumi re afin de s lectionner celle qui fonctionnerait le mieux sur place. Sur ce d fil , nous nous sommes servis de 50 ARRI SkyPanel, 4 ARRI SkyPanel 360 et 100 PAR LED, pour renforcer la rampe de feux. Jai aussi test des drones light et des lasers. En Islande, avec le DP Khalid Mohtaseb, nous avons d r server tous les HMI disponibles sur l' le. Nous avions install trois nacelles quip es d'ARRIMAX 18K de fa on donner une direction de lumi re dans ce d cor de lave noir et avec de ciel gris. En g n ral, sur ce genre de tournage, je vais faire les rep rages trois semaines auparavant, et je dois souvent prendre des options sur le plan lumi re. Le directeur de la photographie et moi travaillons ensuite pour ajuster lensemble en fonction des besoins.

R cemment, Sidney Baucheron est intervenu sur une publicit LOr al, avec le DP Adrien Bertolle. Un beau projet tourn au Palais dI na pour lequel la marque avait fait venir une vingtaine d g ries de plusieurs continents. Avec mon quipe, nous avons install quatre ARRIMAX 18KW sur le toit et huit ARRI M90 sur des nacelles, qui donnaient des directions de lumi re depuis lext rieur. Dans lh micycle, nous nous sommes servis de 20 SkyPanel pour clairer le lieu.
Dans ses projets, le jeune chef lectro utilise beaucoup les produits ARRI Lighting. Pour les HMI, aucun fabricant na une gamme aussi simple et efficace quARRI, souligne Sidney Baucheron. Sur les tournages, jutilise beaucoup la S rie M qui est ultra-bien pens e. Le rapport poids/puissance est parfait. Je me souviens encore quand cette s rie est sortie, c tait incroyable. Elle offrait le m me rendement que les anciens projecteurs tout en consommant 30 % moins de puissance. Larriv e des M90 a beaucoup chang de choses dans mon travail de chef lectro. Cela nous facilite norm ment les choses en termes de gestion lectrique.
