(02/06/2015) OnScene TV operations director Zak Holman is using Teradek's latest in ultra-long range wireless video transmitters. The Teradek Beam is designed with broadcast contribution in-mind for news gathering and outdoor broadcast applications.
As Southern California's top breaking news coverage companies, OnScene TV is picked up daily by local and national stations including CNN, Fox, Telemundo, ABC, NBC and CBS to name a few. By mobilizing their journalists with the latest in workflow technology and traveling in modified ex-police vehicles, OnScene TV is able to get to a scene faster than most traditional OB Vans. To turn over the amount of stories they are able to respond to, OnScene TV uses Teradek Beam for wireless video transmission as a key component to the editorial workflow.
Being able to send the footage to our editing bay in the vehicles, there's nothing like it, says Holman. The last thing I can have is a cable coming from this camera back to my car.
Holman's top requirements for wireless transmission are Bi-Directional IFB, long range and high video quality. With Teradek Beam packing about mile of range in a slim camera-back form factor, it's a device qualified for the challenge.
From the point of arrival on the scene, to the point that it's on TV, we can do it in about 15 minutes, says Holman. With the wireless link integrated between camera and vehicle, OnScene TV is investigating new ways of taking their services into the future. Utilizing Teradek technology we're able to take that workflow from 15 minutes, and then to be able to send that in instantaneously, for us, is a complete game changer, from how its been since 1996.
