
Grass Valleys Glass-to-Glass IP Solution Provides a Flexible, Customized Approach to IP Transition
MONTREAL, April 12, 2015 For customers who have yet to begin the process or those further along in the migration to IP infrastructure, Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, offers an approach to adopting IP technology that fits the unique needs of every broadcaster. At the 2015 NAB Show, Grass Valley will introduce its Glass-to-Glass IP solution, which enables customers to harness the power of IP to make their workflows incredibly agile and flexible while using SDN (software-defined network) and COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) switches in a familiar, broadcast-centric control environment.
Grass Valleys IP demonstration will showcase several new technology components along with a suite of its solutions newly outfitted with the industry standard SMPTE 2022-6 compliant IP I/Os. Using SMPTE 2022-6 guarantees broadcasters product interoperability while the core infrastructure, based on COTS IP switches, provides scalability.
In addition, the Grass Valley stand will feature a live theater presentation focused on IP, titled The Path to IP. Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with Grass Valleys experts and learn about the specific advantages of IP and gain a better understanding of the current landscape.

GV Convergent SDN Provides Flexible Platform
GV Convergent SDN makes routing IP video and audio appear the same as routing serial digital interface (SDI) to an operator, providing transparent control. GV Convergent SDN leverages proven IT technologies, such as COTS IP routing switches and SDN control, to maximize the flexibility essential in todays dynamically changing media industry. Starting from the ground up, Grass Valley has designed a completely integrated configuration and powerful control system that is simple to use, operationally efficient and supports a wide range of hardware and software control panels with seamless control of IP and baseband infrastructure. This intuitive configuration tool allows for changes in real time by multiple administrators simultaneously, which helps operators and engineers become more efficient with faster set-up times.
In addition, Grass Valley has included an SDN module that will manage the IP network in the background, alongside SDI, to make video and audio signal handling transparent, simple and reliable. GV Convergent SDNs modular-type flexibility of service-based architecture supports attention to real-time requirements for fast routing with advanced system-wide knowledge and interaction with multiple devices. The initial release of GV Convergent SDN will target customers who want to make use of IP alongside SDI or as an entrance into IP networking for video and audio signals.
Grass Valleys Glass-to-Glass IP Solution
In addition to the introduction of GV Convergent SDN at NAB, visitors will see demonstrations of new IP capabilities for a variety of Grass Valley equipment across the workflow.
Cameras The XCU HD/4K XF IP base station offers a full end-to-end IP solution without the need to use external HDSDI-to-IP conversion. With the XCU HD/4K XF IP base station, broadcasters can invest in future-ready camera technology that works today in an HD infrastructure, but works equally as well in an IP environment.
IP Gateways Grass Valley will also showcase IP gateways that are easily added to existing signal-processing and routing platforms to enable hybrid workflows (SDI/IP) during an IP migration. The new Densit IP Gateway enables customers to update and upgrade their existing infrastructure for IP migration by adding Densit IPG-3901 Gateway modules to existing Densit frames. This approach makes it possible for IP products to integrate with existing SDI infrastructure and for SDI devices to connect to a video-over-IP infrastructure.
The latest NVISION 8500 IP Gateway can be added to any existing NVISION 8500 router. The gateway cards can be installed in the same router frame which previously only managed SDI signals. They convert IP to SDI and SDI to IP through real-time packetizing of uncompressed baseband video for use over Ethernet networks.
Servers K2 Summit, with the introduction of a new codec board, is now available with IP connectivity. This board, which can be ordered in new K2 Summit configurations or ordered as a field upgrade for existing K2 Summits, offer both SDI and IP connectivity simultaneously. This makes the K2 Summit IP offering the perfect solution for customers that want a future-ready installation.
Switchers The modular design of Grass Valleys K-Frame video processing engine again proves to be both flexible and future thinking by adding a new IP I/O module. This new, half rack width IP I/O module allows users to directly connect K-Frame to IP sources and destinations without the need for external conversion gear, making true IP productions a reality.
Multiviewers Also at NAB 2015, Grass Valley will introduce the new Kaleido-Modular-X IP input card, which integrates with the existing Kaleido-Modular-X product line. Combining this new card with current SDI input cards enables mixed IP and SDI monitoring on the same multiviewer for a smooth transition to IP. The Kaleido-Modular-X IP card also enables designs of complete IP input and IP output multiviewers
