National Geographic Channels International Announces ree New Greenlights from Global Content Hub in London

WASHINGTON, DC - March 31, 2015. National Geographic Channels International (NGCI)'s London-based global content hub today announced greenlights for a new 10 part series and two new feature-length specials, all airing this April in over 170 countries and in 45 languages.

For a global audience hooked on the characters and dangers encountered in the fishing community, NGCI has picked up Cold Water Gold from Passion Distribution in the UK. The tense, ten-part series explores the harsh conditions fishermen in Canada's Newfoundland contend with in a region dubbed Iceberg Alley .

Shifting gears for two new feature-length specials, NGCI partnered with London-based DRIVE for Rebuilding Noah's Ark, in which a team unearths antediluvian instructions and sets about rebuilding the famous Biblical vessel. Going back to similarly ancient times before zipping through history and into the future, Mankind From Space takes a 12,000 year journey through space to see how humans have changed the course of history and the face of the earth. This global celebration of humanity comes from a deal with Endemol Worldwide Distribution.

GREENLIGHTS

Cold Water Gold follows the action on fishing boats off the coast of Newfoundland through one intense fishing season. This salty brotherhood from Canada's most unique region faces swells as high as houses and icebergs the size of small cities as they fish for riches hundreds of miles offshore in the North Atlantic, appropriately nicknamed Iceberg Alley . It's a tough job - tough on boats, tough on gear, tough on the human body - but these bred-in-the-bone fishermen wouldn't have it any other way.

Rebuilding Noah's Ark hones in on a recently discovered Babylonian tablet, which gives a set of precise instructions on how to build the ark at the heart of the flood story that inspired the biblical story of Noah and the flood. Its translator, British Museum curator, Dr Irving Finkel and a team of experts, embark on a challenge to build the vessel that inspired the Biblical Ark and uncover how the story journeyed from ancient Iraq to the Bible. This journey will uncover an untold history of boat building and story-telling that sheds new light on the origins of Noah's Ark and the Hebrew Bible.

Mankind From Space is a journey through 12,000 years of humankind's history, from the global perspective of space. This 2-hour special reveals the breathtaking extent of how we've transformed our planet and produced an interconnected world of extraordinary complexity.
