The director behind the rotoscope films Waking Life ( Life Lines, February 2002) and A Scanner Darkly ( On Edge, August 2006), among other films, took the top prize for the unique film Boyhood for Best Drama, while the stylized effects movie The Grand Budapest Hotel , directed by Wes Anderson, won Best Picture, Comedy or Musical during the 72 nd Annual Golden Globe Awards.
As for Best Animated Film, that honor went to DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon 2 ( Coming of Age, May/June 2014)), besting Big Hero 6, The Book of Life, The Boxtrolls, and The Lego Movie.
Linklater's Boyhood is a coming-of-age story that was filmed intermittently over 12 years. The Globes are considered a portent of the Oscars. Later this week, the Oscar finalists will be announced, with the winners revealed the end of February.
