The demi-god Maui will once again be played by Dwayne Johnson in a live-action adaptation of the 2016 musical Moana.

Dwayne Johnson expressed his great humility in announcing that they will be bringing MOANA's lovely tale to the live-action big screen.

According to him, the narrative exemplifies his culture and the elegance, mana, and martial prowess of his people.

Johnson, who will reprise his role as Maui from the 2016 animated classic with a Polynesian setting, talked about how personally significant this project is in light of his late grandpa, High Chief Peter Maivia.

In addition to Moana and Maui, the actor added that the village head Tui, Te Fiti the goddess, Pua the pig, and Heihei the rooster will all make appearances in the live-action adaptation of the popular animated film. The casting and release date have not yet been disclosed.

While Johnson expressed his excitement about bringing a live-action Moana to the big screen, he acknowledged that it is still very early in the process and that much more work has to be done. The San Andreas actor was seen chatting with his two young kids as they played in the sand towards the conclusion of the video.

-- Moana was one of the biggest blockbusters of the year when it debuted in theatres about seven years ago.

The musical fantasy movie centers on Moana, who searches for the heart of Te Fiti (a pounamu stone) in order to preserve her island. Moana (Auli'i Cravalho) meets Maui (Dwayne Johnson), who joins her on the journey, during her adventures.

What Moana is about Moana is a 2016 animated musical fantasy action-adventure movie made in the United States and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures. It was directed by John Musker and Ron Clements and was the 56th Disney animated feature picture.

Moana is about a courageous adolescent named Moana who sets out on a perilous expedition to show her skills as a skilled navigator and save her people with the assistance of the deity Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson).

The movie Moana had its world debut on November 14, 2016, at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles as part of the AFI Fest. On November 23, it was distributed in theatres around the country.

Critics gave the movie favourable reviews and commended its voice acting, soundtrack, and animation in particular.

Disney has succeeded in adapting a number of its animation masterpieces into live-action films, starting with Beauty and the Beast in 2017 and continuing with Aladdin and The Lion King in 2019. The live-action version of The Little Mermaid, starring Halle Bailey, will be released by the firm this year and will hit theatres the following month.
