Top Arab Standup Comedians Excited About Performing at...

Top Arab and international standup comedians are looking forward to entertaining the people of UAE at the first ever Sharjah comedy night, Comedia 3al Wagef, being hosted by Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB) at the iconic Al Majaz Amphitheatre in Sharjah on Friday, April 21st.

After numerous spectacular performances by Arab and international musical legends and stars such as Mohammed Abdu, Marcel Khalife, Yanni, Julio Iglesias, Angham and Assala Nasri and numerous others, this is the first time Al Majaz Amphitheatre, managed by SGMB, is hosting a night dedicated to standup comedy, said Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of Sharjah Government Media Bureau.

Standup comedy has been increasingly popular in the UAE and the wider Middle East over the last decade or so. With YouTube emerging as a convenient and everyman's platform, artists from all across the Arab world are discovering a fast growing and receptive audience that is always looking out for a good laugh, Allay said.

The one-of-its-kind live show will bring together popular names such Ali Al Sayed, pioneer of standup comedy in the UAE and Comedian of the Year,' according to Esquire Middle East 2016, Bader Saleh, the YouTube sensation who boasts over 3 million subscribers to his hit show, Esh Elly, as well as Al Laila ma Bader Saleh on MBC, Fahad Al Butairi, known as Saudi Arabia's Seinfeld' and one of the stars of the Emirati film, From A to B, Ebrahim Al Khairallah, the finalist of Arabs Got Talent and the funnyman known for the popular hand puppet, Temsa7, Kuwait's Ahmad Al Shimmari, another YouTube superstar in his own right and host of his own comedy club in Kuwait, and finally Egypt's Mohammed Morgan, the fresh face of the year and star of the Kit Kat Comedy Break.

Speaking earlier, top Arab comedy stars said they were excited about performing at the first Comedy Night at Al Majaz Amphitheatre. The ability to make people laugh is a great gift and honour. If you bring people together in one place and make them laugh, it means you have reached their hearts. You can change any negative perception they have of you and have them listen to what you want to say, said Ali Al Sayed, known as the pioneer of standup comedy in the UAE and Comedian of the Year,' according to Esquire Middle East 2016.

Fahad Al Butairi, known as Saudi Arabia's Seinfeld' and one of the stars of the Emirati film, From A to B, added: A comedian can serve as an ambassador for his culture, which inspires his work. And laughter is a universal language. Mohammed Morgan of Egypt, star of the Kit Kat Comedy Break, said he believed that comedy is a language that everybody understands. It touches upon topics that are known to everyone. The world has become a small, open place, and this is why the language of comedy is understood by all, he explained.

As part of its efforts to promote a culture of arts and appreciation of music in the Emirate and the UAE, Al Majaz Amphitheatre has been regularly hosting top Arab and international artists and musical icons since its inception in 2012. The year 2017 began on an exciting note with top Arab and international artists performing at Al Majaz Amphitheatre as part of the Sharjah World Music Festival, held from 6-14 January, by Shurooq.
