Distrify Media inks landmark deal with Chinese platform Future TV --

Distrify Media, the Glasgow-based VOD platform, has secured series A investment led by international venture syndicate ESM Investments which, alongside continuing support from other investment bodies, amounts to almost US$1 million. The significant funding supports Distrify Media s continued development and expansion which includes a landmark deal to launch an international Chinese VOD portal and to distribute locally produced films internationally.
The video-on-demand provider is the first European VOD company to sign a distribution deal with China s CNTV and the company s digital arm Future TV. The deal will see Distrify Media technology deliver Future TV videos online including mobile apps and Smart TV as part of the deal. Distrify Media also gains a permanent Chinese base at the headquarters of Future TV in Tianjin, China, expanding its current workforce beyond Glasgow and Tel Aviv.
The innovative partnership will see Future TV content, over 1.5 million hours of programming, available around the world on the brand new VOD platform to be developed by Distrify Media. Distrify Media s current catalogue of titles, currently available in over 160 countries, will also be available on the new Chinese VOD platform, reaching millions of new viewers.
The landmark deal was facilitated by the UKTI (UK Trade and Investment), the government department which works with British businesses looking to grow in international markets, after a series of successful events in Shanghai, Beijing and London.
Distrify Media already works with the biggest players in the UK film and social media industries including the BFI, Film4, BBC, The Guardian and Creative Europe.
The Distrify Media Player and Network are products that form the foundation for a new video marketing ecosystem, which helps rights holders to engage and stay connected with today s dynamic, multi-screen audiences as well as access to the highest levels of control and transparency.
Future TV Co., Ltd, a subsidiary of China Network Television (CNTV), is an Internet TV operator authorized by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), officially established on December 2011.
As the first Internet TV License holder in China, Future TV owns the most up to date video content library of over 1.5 million hours of VOD programs. Through content delivery networks and a close relationship with smart TV and STB manufacturers such as LG, TCL, Haier, Hisense, Xiaomi as well as the world online streaming giants such as YouTube, Viki, Hulu, iTunes and hundreds of other content partners, Future TV is now providing the richest and most diverse Chinese contents to its 50 million users around the whole world. Future TV also offers HD, 3D, interactive entertainment and other featured services, as well as value-added services including family album, video chat, TV shopping, and multi-screen interaction.
