Maxx Digital announced the release of the new Final Share shared storage system enter THUNDER SHARE 2.0 for professional video editors, that is based on the new Mac Pro server computer with Thunderbolt 2 technology. The new Mac Pro, running OS X Mavericks Server connects to a 16 bay Thunderbolt 2 drive chassis, that is capable of speeds up to 1300 MB/sec at RAID 0 and 1250 MB/sec at RAID 5. Networking to the client computers for shared storage is done with 10 Gigabit Ethernet, using off the shelf Cat6 cabling.
Client computers, such as an iMac or Mac Mini, running with standard Thunderbolt to 10 Gig Ethernet adaptors, offer connection speeds of over 650 MB/sec, making editing even 4K files no longer an issue. The network is backwards compatible to standard 1 Gig Ethernet, making it possible to connect a computer without a Thunderbolt to 10Gig adaptor, and still get about 100 MB/sec connection speed, which is more than enough for conventional 1080i HD video files such as Apple Pro Res 422 (HQ).
Maxx Digital uses OS X Mavericks Server, making connection to Windows PC's no longer an issue, because of Apple's implementation of SMB2. Third party software to connect to an Apple server is no longer necessary. Due to the popularity of editing software like Adobe CC Premiere and FCP-X, transcoding is no longer an issue over an Apple AFP network. Maxx Digital THUNDER SHARE 2.0 supports the built in NFS networking protocol, making shared storage for FCP-X systems very simple. There is no longer any need to use sparse disk images with FCP-X to get shared storage to work.
Base models of Maxx Digital THUNDER SHARE 2.0 start with 2 user systems, with 16 TB of storage, and can scale up to 48 users, with 384 TB of total storage. Every Maxx Digital THUNDER SHARE 2.0 system, even the base model, comes standard with 10 Gigabit Ethernet connection. The new Maxx Digital Thunderbolt 2 THUNDER SHARE 2.0 system will start shipping at NAB 2014. Maxx Digital will continue to pursue the development of Thunder Bolt to its fullest capacity and we will be showing very exciting things in our NAB booth SL13005 during the 2014 NAB show April 7 to April 10th in Las Vegas Nevada.
