Mark Covino and Jeff Howletts A Band Called Death is a documentary 42 years in the making. Its one of the most unlikely true stories youll ever hear, and one of the great triumphs in rock history. Detroit, 1971. Three teenage brothers, Bobby, Dannis and David Hackney dabbled in playing funk music, but after they attended a particularly thunderous Alice Cooper performance, the Hackneys group Rock Fire Funk Express gradually transformed into a entirely different band...a band called DEATH.

The band was beyond their time and the world was not ready for their unique brand of frenetic rock, something later the world would embrace as punk came in vogue a few years later. After years of rejection from record execs and clubs, they called it quits and left their recording dormant in a dusty attic for decades. In 2008, Death songs began making the rounds virally across the internet. Bobby and Dannis remained unaware. Collectors went rabid, the recordings were pulled from the attic, and it wasn't long before the world finally caught up with the band's unparalleled, innovatory vision.

And now, A Band Called Death which saw its theatrical run earlier this year (and is still playing!) will hit DVD + Blu-ray August 13th.
