Matthews' Apple Boxes - Evoke More Than Yoga Strength 20 February 2015

It's no secret, Apple Boxes are a staple on every production set they make shorter people taller, provide resting places for tired crew. You can use them for propping or leveling, sitting or standing. Nail Wall Plates to them to hold low angle lighting fixtures and more.

That's what drew photographer David Arellano of Carmel Studios to MSE's Apple Boxes for a unique photo shoot that involved model R'Bonney Nola, in various Yoga poses. I wanted to take a creative approach to the traditional Yoga pose when I was developing this concept, says Arellano. In my research, I found that many yoga poses positioned on a simple yoga mat. I thought the idea of elevating the yoga pose from the floor, and placing the subject on top of a solid platform would invoke the feeling of strength, stability and dependability.

With concept in mind, Arellano went in search of a solid platform. A big fan of Matthews equipment, I use their C-stands a lot. So, I took a look at the Matthews Apple Box and knew they would be a safe, strong and sturdy support to balance her weight.

As she goes through various poses, her expression appears effortless while simultaneously displaying incredible strength which compliments the stability and sturdiness qualities of the Matthews Apple Box!
