Artec Releases New Software, Scanner

PALO ALTO, CA - Artec 3D, a developer and manufacturer of professional 3D software and hardware, has released Artec Studio 10, a software suite designed for Artec's handheld 3D scanners, and a new handheld 3Dscanner called Space Spider.

The new and optimized software features included with the user-friendly interface are designed to improve the ease, speed and accuracy of the scanning process and obtain faster results. New and improved features for Artec Studio 10 include algorithms to maintain total control of tracking, automatic scan alignment correction during scanning, faster texture color mapping, boosted auto-alignment and non-rigid global alignment capabilities, mesh simplification, additional texture editing tools, and more.

These features assist with the capturing and editing of 3D data to ensure speed and accuracy throughout both the scanning and processing stages. While scanning, users are able to keep total control of tracking even when the scanner is shaken or turned. Should the user make larger movements that may disrupt the scan, the continuous scanning algorithms are able to automatically adjust and pick up where the scan left off.

In addition, Tracking Alignment Correction will identify tricky scanning areas and automatically realign scans during the scanning procedure itself, substantially reducing the time needed for post-processing the data.

Artec Studio 10 is available in two editions: Professional and Ultimate, which are both compatible with all of Artec 3D scanners. The Professional version is available as the usual one-time purchase or as a yearly subscription. Artec Studio 10 Ultimate is available by subscription only.

In another announcement, Artec released Space Spider, a professional-grade handheld 3D scanner, the Space Spider. Space Spider was inspired by the space industry; it is equipped with an enhanced cooling system that allows it to operate at a constant temperature throughout the entire scanning process.

The Space Spider's advanced cooling system keeps it from becoming overheated, a common problem for electronics in places with important variations in temperature.

Using blue LED lights, the Space Spider can precisely scan a variety of objects of all sizes, even those with sharp edges, moving parts or textured surfaces, in high resolution. It captures objects with an accuracy of up to 50 microns and resolution of up to 100 microns, making it ideal for CAD as well as reverse engineering and additive manufacturing.

Space Spider retails for $27,600.
