Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela has announced that multi-award-winning actor-presenter Lawrence Maleka, who plays Zolani in The River has exited the telenovela. The star is the second actor after Hlomla Dandala, who plays Zweli to exit the show this week.

INSIDE LAWRENCE MALEKA'S EXIT Viewers of The River were still coming to terms with Hlomla Dandala's exit on Sunday (16 October) when Mphela announced the departure of actor Lawrence Maleka, who plays fan-favourite character Zolani Dlamini this afternoon.

According to Mphela, neither Maleka nor Dandala will not be part of season six which starts in 2023.

Maleka first took a break from the telenovela in October 2021 after his character was sentenced to prison for the murder of Zithulele Duze (Makhaola Ndebele).

Fans of The River threatened to stop watching the award-winning telenovela back in 2021 and have now lost hope for season six.

It is unclear at this stage what Maleka and Dandala's plans are after the 1Magic telenovela.
