RAGEH OMAAR GOES BEYOND THE HEADLINES FOR NEW ITV CURRENT AFFAIRS SERIESITV will show the stories behind the headlines dominating the international news agenda in a brand new series of monthly current affairs programmes for 2014.
On Assignment will be fronted by Rageh Omaar, who has been appointed to the role of ITV News International Affairs Editor.
ITV News will produce the monthly programmes, comprising long-form reports, focusing on providing colour, background, insight and perspectives on some of the biggest stories on the news agenda. The programme will focus on international coverage but will include some stories from the UK. An award-winning team of specialist broadcast journalists, currently working across ITV News, will contribute unique in-depth reports.
The new monthly strand will be broadcast on ITV from March in 30 minute slots at 10.35pm.
Previously a special correspondent for ITV News, Rageh will be based in London in his new role, working alongside Europe Editor James Mates and Diplomatic Correspondent John Ray in the International Unit. He will report as part of ITV News' expert team of journalists, enhancing programmes with comprehensive studio analysis and continuing to build on his huge wealth of experience in foreign affairs.

I have been lucky enough to report from countries and on stories all over the world for nearly twenty years. To be able to do so now as International Affairs Editor for ITVs audience and with a new programme highlighting and showcasing ITV News' wealth of international news reporting talent is a real privilege. I cant wait to get started.

On Assignment will offer ITV News the luxury of more time to tell the story than a traditional TV news programme allows and another platform to showcase our journalism.
