Johannesburg and Pretoria documentary film screenings with TCFF
In 2015, TCFF will take place as a travelling film festival. Moving from city to city over a four-month period from August, the social impact films in this year's selection will be reaching new audiences. In 2015 the festival will travel to:Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Grahamstown, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria and Mbombela
Below are a number of exciting documentary film screenings coming up in Johannesburg and Pretoria.
THE YES MEN ARE REVOLTING
Wednesday 14 October, 7pm
The Factory on Grant, Grant Avenue, Norwood, Johannesburg
The Yes Men have staged outrageous and hilarious hoaxes to draw international attention to corporate crimes against humanity and the environment.
Ferrial Adam from 350.org will be talking with the audience after the screening about the upcoming Paris climate talks and the South African push for climate justice. Tickets cost R50.
DEMOCRATS
Thursday 15 October, 6.30pm for 7pm
Kutlwanong Democracy Centre, 357 Visagie Street, Pretoria (food and snacks provided).
This documentary follows the two men who are tasked with a mammoth mission to consult Zimbabweans across the country about a new constitution under development.
Gabriel Shumba from Lawyers for Human Rights hosts a discussion on Zimbabwean refugees in South Africa. Free screening.
THE SHORE BREAK
Friday 16 October, 6.30pm for 7pm
Kutlwanong Democracy Centre, 357 Visagie Street, Pretoria (food and snacks provided).
The Shore Break documents how a local community fights back against the proposed titanium mining projects planned for the pristine Wild Coast of South Africa.
Followed by discussion hosted by Land Claims Commission. Free screening.
CITIZENFOUR
Saturday 17 October, 7pm
27 Boxes, 75 3rd Avenue, Melville, Johannesburg.
A rare glimpse into the history of the US surveillance state being unmade by Edward Snowden and three journalists who he agreed to meet in Hong Kong.
The screening will be followed by a dialogue with R2K leaders about the state of surveillance in South Africa. Tickets cost R50.
